Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

Minnesota’s Infant and Toddler Intervention services are designed for children birth to seven years of age who may be experiencing delays in their development for a variety of reasons, including special health conditions.  Services are designed to meet the unique needs of each child and their family.  Accessing these services as early as possible will ensure the best developmental outcomes for the child.  These services are offered at no cost to the family. 

Braham Area Schools provides ECSE services to students ages Birth to 5 years who meet state criteria for those services after a comprehensive developmental evaluation process. After a developmental evaluation, students that meet criteria under one of the 13 disability categories would receive an educational label and are eligible to receive early childhood special education services based upon their individualized needs. Possible services include: early childhood special education teacher, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other services are available based upon the student's needs. Students who are under 3 would generally receive home visiting services in the home and students over three would receive services in the preschool setting. 

Early Childhood  Special Education ages Birth-2:
Braham Area Schools provides services to students with a special education label at the family’s home or child care center when children are ages Birth through the child's 3rd birthday. Children receive different types and different intensities of service based on their identified special education needs, but the purpose of home visits is to help caregivers learn to influence the child’s development in the educator’s absence. Participation by the caregiver in home visit sessions is essential to this purpose. Children with a developmental delay or other educational disability label will require intervention in one or more of the following developmental domains: social/emotional development, language development, cognition development, or fine or gross motor development.

Early Childhood  Special Education ages 3-5:
Braham Area Schools provides services to students ages 3-5 with a special education disability label at the Braham Elementary school readiness First-step and Kinderstep program or at an alternate location based on the child's specific needs. Children receive different types of services and different intensities of service based on their identified special education needs. As often as possible, children receive their special education instruction with their preschool peers. Children with developmental delay or other educational disability label require instruction in one or more of the following developmental domains: social/emotional development, language development, cognition development, or fine or gross motor development.
